ANNUAL SPORTS MEET |
|
Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir
held its 19th Annual Sports and Athletics
Meet on 7th December 2011 at ISM
grounds. The Guest of Honour for the evening was
Mr. Harshendu Shah, the Honorary President of
the School Managing Committee. The Members of the
School Managing Committee and Mr. Leo Lobo,
the Academic Director, were also present on the
occasion.
The leading athletes of the
school – Mohsin Beary, Monisha Nair, Aditi Kumar,
Mohul Misra and four others, held the symbolic
burning torch aloft and circled the arena, giving a
fitting kick off to a spectacular evening of sports.
An impressive March Past by the four Houses, led by
the ‘Colour Party’, to the accompaniment of the
school brass band, was indeed spectacular. Srishti
Gupta, the Head Girl, cordially welcomed the
gathering, after which, the meet was declared open
by the Chief Guest. Jude Jegan, the Head Boy, took
the oath on behalf of all the contestants and the
meet took off with the sub-junior events and ended
with the 4x100 m relay races where the athletes from
the four houses displayed their speed, endurance and
co-ordination, fighting neck-to-neck, making the
spectators hold their breath. A display relay race,
where the house teachers and ex-students took part,
was cheered by all.
The fitting finale to a
wonderful evening of tough competitions and
mesmerizing performances was a colourful and
synchronized drill display by the students of
standards six and seven. The Calisthenics by the
boys was indeed a display of skill, endurance and
co-ordination. The colourful Aerobics drill by the
girls impressed the spectators with their perfect
synchronization, timing and grace. A new addition to
the event was the yoga drill by the girls of class
VIII, where the fusion of spirit, body and mind was
in perfect synchronization with the rhythmic tune of
music.
The Cock-House trophy as well
as the overall Athletic Champion House trophy was
bagged by the Vivekananda House and the runner-up
was the Tagore House. The trophy for marching was
won by the Vivekananda House. Prizes were also given
away to the best performers of various categories

ISWK CELEBRATES 22nd
FOUNDERS DAY |
|
The 22nd
Founders Day was enthusiastically commemorated on
the 21st of November 2011 to
celebrate bygone milestone and sow new dreams. It
was a day when the entire family of ISWK awoke to
count their blessings and display their talents. The
Chief Guest on the occasion was Mr.
SudhirKeshavji, Managing Director of
NaranjeeHirjee& Co LLC. He was accompanied by Mr.
Harshendu Shah, Hon. President of the School
Managing Committee along with other members.
The spectacular
event staged on the school grounds stole the hearts
of the beholders and will be long remembered. The
arrival of the Chief Guest was followed by the
singing of the National anthems of Oman and India
which formally raised the curtains of the events of
the day.
In his address to
the gathering, Mr. Harshendu Shah, Honorary
President of the School Managing Committee recounted
the foundation years of the school and highlighted
its progress over the last two decades. He
congratulated the school for sustaining the high
standard of education being imparted to students and
lauded the excellent results produced in the Board
Examinations and appreciated the efforts of the
teachers towards achieving good results. He also
mentioned plans of the school starting the CBSE(i)
curriculum in the near future.
Introspection is
inevitable to grow from strength to strength. Rooted
in this belief, The Principal, Mr. P.N. Ashok
presented the Annual Report for the year 2011 –
2012. He gave the audience an insight into the
school’s progress as he highlighted the school’s
achievements through the year which has led it to
heights of glory.
The Chief Guest
felicitated meritorious students who achieved
laudable success in a range of curricular,
co-curricular and extra-curricular areas. Also
honoured were members of the school academic and
non-academic staff who completed 10 and 20 years of
service. They were awarded mementoes and cash awards
as tokens of gratitude and appreciation.
The award
ceremony was followed by a colourful dance titled
‘Synthesis of Rhythm and colour’ by the students of
the primary wing of the school. The dance was a
fusion of Gypsy, Calypso and Hawaiian Dances. The
audience was treated to a harmonious and mellifluous
musical presentation by the school choir consisting
of 110 singers and20 musicians. They presented two
Hindi songs, ‘MeriVeenameinyehkaunsibajidhun’ and ‘A
Dola’. The melodious renditions were followed by a
fusion of classical dances as students related
themselves to the theme very well in their graceful
performance, ‘A Tribute to Seasons’.
The celebrations
concluded with the sublime strains of the English
song, ‘Got to Have Belief in Yourself’ by the school
English choir and musicians which enthralled the
august gathering as they proclaimed the message to
have belief in oneself.

HOLDS INVESTITURE CEREMONY
|
|
At
a solemn and impressive function held in the school
auditorium on May 2nd, 88
students were formally invested with various posts
of responsibility as Student Office Bearers for the
academic year 2011-2012. Mr. Harshendu Shah,
Honorary President of the School Managing Committee
was the chief guest on the occasion. The function
was also graced by the presence of members of the
school managing committee, parents and well-wishers.
The function commenced on a spiritual note with the
singing of “Tum
Aasha Vishwaas Humaare” by the school choir.
In his address, Principal, Mr. P.N. Ashok, exhorted
the students to live up to the trust and high
expectations that the student community as well as
teachers had of them. He stressed on the fact that
all the newly appointed office bearers should be
positive role models, be ready to serve and lead
when necessary and should not fall short of the
dignity of their position. Speaking on leadership,
the principal advised the students to have faith in
themselves and perform their duties without any fear
or favour. Giving an example of the writer Thomas
Carlyle, he encouraged the students to have the
‘Never Give Up’ attitude and advised them to be
disciplined, honest, truthful, forgiving, caring and
committed. Finally he wished them good luck as they
ready themselves to shoulder their new
responsibilities.
Before assisting in formally investing the students
with authority, Mr. Harshendu Shah shared some
golden nuggets of wisdom with the students. He
congratulated the office bearers on their being
invested with new responsibilities and exhorted them
to lead by example. He asked the students to focus
on the development of their inner selves and to take
their school to newer heights. Mr. Shah also
reminded them that with power comes responsibility
and that a man’s true power lies within his
character. He advised the students to develop the I
Can Do It! attitude and to rely on their mental,
physical and spiritual strengths. He congratulated
the office bearers and wished that they would carry
out their duties with honour and dignity.
What
followed next was the pinning of Badges on the
students as a symbolic means of conferring on them
their new areas of responsibility and authority. The
investiture ceremony formalized the appointment of
Jude Jegan and Srishti Gupta as Head Boy and Head
Girl; Ernst Schwan and Kimberley Dias as Deputy Head
Boy and Deputy Head Girl; Aditi Naik and Kewin
Palocaren as Activity Co-coordinators, Denzil
Saldanha and Aditi Kumar as Sports Coordinators. In
addition 64 new Prefects were administered the oath
of office.
While
these posts had received nominations from the
teachers, the student community (through a secret
ballot conducted earlier) elected their own House
Office Bearers. In the final counting of votes for
the four Houses the chosen representatives included:
Pooja
James (Captain, Tagore House); Aayush Shroff (Deputy
Captain); Burhanuddin Patanwala and Eric Edwards
(Vice-Captains).
Mohsin
Beary (Captain Akbar House); Kajal Joshi (Deputy
Captain); Mohd. Rizwan and Roshan Rajesh
(Vice-Captains).
Aishwarya
Shekar (Captain Ashoka House); Aashiq J. S. (Deputy

The
function came to a close with the melodious
rendition of the song On Our School Your Blessings Lord and
singing of the National Anthem.

ISWK COMMEMORATES FOUNDERS DAY
|
|
The
Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir enthusiastically
celebrated its
21st Founders Day
anniversary on 27th February 2011 in all
its pomp
and
gaiety under the patronage of H.E Anil Wadhwa
Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman.
Among
the dignitaries present on the occasion were Mr
Nailesh Khimji,
Mr Kiran Asher, Members of the
Indian Banyan Community, Members of the school
Managing Committee, Members of the educational cell,
Members of the Board of Directors and Principals of
other Indian schools.
In his address, Mr Harshendu Shah, Honorary
President of the School
Managing
Committee highlighted the school’s progress over
the last two decades from its humble origin to its
present stature. He congratulated the school for
sustaining high standard and excellent results in
Board Examinations.
In
his annual report Principal P.N. Ashok proudly
talked about the significance of the day and
highlighted the achievements which has led the
school to reach great heights.

The
Chief Guest, H.E
Anil Wadhwa, felicitated the meritorious students
who achieved laudable success in both scholastic and
co-scholastic areas. During the occasion, the school
staff who completed 10 and 20 years of service were
awarded mementoes and cash awards as a token of
appreciation of their dedicated service.

The
award ceremony was followed by a colourful cultural
programme by the students of class V that enthralled
the audience with a folk dance “From
Russia with Love”
which was abundant in its grandeur and gaiety. The
audience was also mesmerised by the school’s
Hindustani choir presenting a fusion of two songs
titled “O
Ganga Tum”, and Rabindranath Tagore’s
“Hawa Bahe Jor”.

There
was also a stunning display of classical and semi
classical dance forms of Mohiniyattam and
Bharatnatyam,
titled
“Bhoomi Pranaam” which depicted the
tranquil life experienced in various parts of India
in all its natural simplicity and this was fused
with versions of “Vande
Mataram” and “Jai
Ho” performed in trendy style.

The
celebrations culminated with a mellifluous song “We’ll
Survive, We’ll Make Heaven A Place On Earth”
presented by the western choir
comprising of 120 singers, and a band of 20
musicians proclaiming the message, loud and clear,
that all of us should strive together to make a
heaven on earth and eliminate war,
hunger and starvation from the earth.

A
Rare Honour For ISWK Student
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
Aditi
Mahajan,
a student of class 11 at ISWK, was a special invitee
and a guest of the Honourable Prime Minister of
India, Sh. Manmohan Singh at the Republic day Parade
on the Rajpath, New Delhi on the 26th of
January 2011. She had the honour of witnessing
the parade from the Prime Minister’s box and
receiving a Certificate of Merit. This move
has been initiated by the combined efforts of
Ministries of Defence, Human Resource Development
and the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
This
honour has been bestowed upon her in recognition of
her outstanding academic performance in the class 10
Board examination conducted by the CBSE
(2009-2010). Out of the many students with a
CGPA of 10 in Muscat, Aditi
is the only NRI in her age group to attend this
function,
based on her total marks and percentage. She
was ranked among the top 12 in India,
top
3 in Delhi and
1st
in the Gulf region.
Twelve students from class ten, 12 from class 12 and
76 Degree holders of various age groups, each
excelling in his/her own field received this
once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness the Parade from
the Prime Minister’s enclosure. The school
management, Director, Principal and Staff
congratulate and wish that Ms. Aditi Mahajan soars
higher and higher in her academic pursuits.

The
field work of the actual counting for the
Census of Population Housing and
Establishments 2010 kicked off on the 12th
of December. Over 6000 officials are working
round the clock across the Sultanate to
complete this mammoth task. It is an honour
for Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir as
contingents of 20 of its teachers with the
support of its School Management Committee
have taken up the responsibility of lending a
helping hand to the government of Oman. The
teachers are working in shifts at the Muscat
International Airport to complete the census
work by 21st of December. The
census work by Indian School Wadi Kabir is
being coordinated by an experienced faculty
member Mr. Sanjeet Kumar Das.

again, excel in Class X Board examination.
237 students appeared at the X Board
Examination and all were declared
successful.
Ms. Aditi Mahajan was the top scorer
with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)
of 10, scoring the highest Grade Point of 10
in all the five scholastic subjects of
study. She

ISWK students excel in
Class XII Board examination.
Of
the 59 students of the Science stream, 36
students secured above 75%.
An additional 18 students had 60% and
above. Harshita
Chandrahasa secured the maximum
aggregate with 95.6%, followed by Bharat
Kumar Menon with 95% and Kavya
George with 94.6%.
Of the 61 students
from the Commerce stream, 18 secured above 75%, 32 students had
above 60%. Saud
Haroon Khan stood first with 90.6%, followed by Kimberly
Marlean Pinto with 88.6% and Munira Shabbir Sharbat
with 86.8%.
